The path to today's market position was marked by constantly growing success: It all began in 2000, when independent German mineral oil traders established the company. The objective was to gain customers who had switched from fuel oil to gas. A year later, natGAS supplied its first industrial customers, with others to follow soon. Back then, it was particularly challenging to organise the transport through existing pipelines. However, this situation gradually changed thanks to the efforts of the Federal Network Agency and the Cartel Office, until a fully operable transport market was eventually on hand.
Apart from industrial enterprises, municipal utility companies also increasingly joined our range of customers as the time went by. The service range expanded, and the liquidity in the energy markets improved. Besides energy supplies, natGAS intensified the development and optimisation of portfolios, also as service-only product. The energy reform, which triggered a strong demand for individual, flexible solutions such as those offered by natGAS, provided further impulses.
As of the end of 2012, natGAS supplied and advised several hundred industrial customers, three of which are listed in the DAX, numerous service companies and more than 100 municipal utility companies. The amount of gas sold was 109 TWh, and the revenue over EUR 2,5 billion.
